That's what the Bible Students used to assert (new light didn't come until a century later), but I don't think that is correct. After all, Paul talked about Jesus appearing to "the twelve" and then says 'last of all he appeared to me', so I think it's pretty apparent the word apostle is used literally as a descriptive term.

The new article about Mary Magdalene says:
The Catholic Church calls Mary . . . “the apostle of the apostles” because she was the first to bring news of Jesus’ resurrection to the apostles. . . . But this does not make her an apostle. And nowhere in the Scriptures is she called such.
Apostle is from the Greek word to "send forth", like a messenger. Just as Paul was "an apostle to the nations" because of being sent forth, but 'not one of the twelve'. On that note, Mary was told by Jesus to "go to my brothers" and tell them about his resurrection. But WT just can't bear to say that about a woman, just like they've always lied about Judge Deborah, calling her only a prophetess, and how they never looked into the alternate interpretation of Paul seemingly saying that women should keep silent in the congregation.

Gerrit Loesch video from this week's meeting
by neat blue dog inhe talks about how a group of 5,000 broke away from the organization due to distrust of government agents infiltrating the jws.
they weren't regarded as apostates, just distrustful.
he uses phrases like "their leader" and "his elders", and how they had a meeting with the governing body and made the decision for all these thousands to reintegrate them into the jws, splitting them up among congregations.

SBF, you're right, that's the exact clip. With regards to him being a true believer, I agree. Although he is the longest serving GB member, I think he is also the most simple minded and least conniving, almost stumbling on being on the GB. Most of his talks consist of verbatim quotes that he got from WT Library, just like an average rank and file would write.

I just wonder: How can ANY JW watch this and not be hit with the fact that this is a HUMAN organization led by HUMANS ONLY?

terrified but waking up, child abuse, suicide etc.
by anon1028 inim new to this forum, i dont know where else to post my story, sorry if im wrong for posting this on this subject.
as i begin to wake up from being in the org i thought id introduce myself to this forum with how i was raised in the org..., ive been beginning to look at everyones stories from being raised as one and how they left, and i find comfort in knowing im not alone, so maybe another young person like me will find the same comfort reading my story.
as you can tell by my username, i am posting this on an anonymous account because of fear of what the elders would do to me and my parents if they found out who i was.

You're young, don't forget that! I know it seems like you've lost time already, but there's so much more. Don't let them steal anymore and be patient while actively working towards your independence. I recommend the movie "Apostasy". You reminded me of it in some aspects, but while sad it is hopeful and empowering.

Beards in the WT: Africa too
by neat blue dog inas many know, african languages have for decades been given their own alternate cover with black people.
their cover for the 2020 wt#3 also includes a bearded man.
this can not be a coincidence.

That different covers exist, is not common knowledge.
I assumed most knew, because it's been part of the tours at Bethel for decades and I think was also in the organization video.

Breaking: Beards in The Watchtower
by neat blue dog inthe latest issue of the watchtower shows a man with a beard praying.. .
i fully expected to see him 'progress' to clean-shaven in the following pictures, but instead he is still bearded when 'applying bible principles'.. .
i then realized that he was already featured on the cover itself.. .

we have to stop living in the past . . . the WTS used to have an issue with beards. . . . But things have moved on. . . . Nowadays a neat beard is perfectly acceptable
I don't know about that. JWs with beards exist as a very small percentage, but in most of the world they are viewed as not being in good standing, and even in the rare cases they are you don't see them in the publications . . . At least not yet.

By the way GB member Van Ambergh had a beard up until his death about 1947.
He was the last part of the overlapping beard generation, hence the only reason he was tolerated by Rutherford.
